Bringing Clean Water to Millions in Burundi

Burundi, a beautiful country bordering Lake Tanganyika, faces a water crisis. While abundant water exists, a lack of infrastructure and climate challenges leave millions without access to clean drinking water.

Grundfos, a world leader in pump solutions and a partner of Brave Blue World Studios, is playing a vital role in changing this narrative.

The Challenge: Scarcity Amidst Abundance

Burundi's water woes stem from a combination of factors. Overpopulation strains existing resources, while polluted surface water and crocodile-infested lakes pose safety risks. Climate change further complicates matters, with erratic rainfall patterns and long dry seasons.

The Solution: Grundfos Pumps Power Change

Partnering with the NGO Amazi Water, Grundfos is supplying solar-powered, submersible SQFlex pumps for hundreds of boreholes. These pumps tap into safe groundwater reserves, providing a reliable and sustainable water source for communities. Leading this effort on the ground is hydrologist Synthia Douchimé, hydrologist at Amazi Water. Her expertise is crucial in selecting drilling sites and ensuring the long-term sustainability of these water projects.

The Impact: Transforming Lives

The results are nothing short of transformative. Since 2014, Amazi Water has drilled over 850 boreholes, equipped with Grundfos pumps, bringing clean water access to over 2.5 million Burundians. Imagine the difference - children attending school, families growing vegetables, and a healthier future for all.

This inspiring story of collaboration is just one example of Grundfos' commitment to "Improving water quality for life." The impact will be further showcased in the upcoming Brave Blue World Studios film, "Our Blue World: A Water Odyssey," where viewers can expect to see Synthia Douchimé's dedication in action.
