Brave Blue World-themed opening to kickstart Web Summit

A new feature-length 4K documentary called Brave Blue World is bringing entrepreneurs and Hollywood stars together at one of the world’s largest technology events.

Singer, actor and activist Jaden Smith will kickstart a panel discussion at the Web Summit in Lisbon, known as the 'Davos for geeks’.

Gary White of Water.org, a company he co-founded with Matt Damon, will join the panel alongside Paul O’Callaghan, executive producer of new water documentary Brave Blue World, which will feature at the heart of the discussions.

In a session titled 'Saving the planet, one drop at a time’, the centre-stage panel will address 15,000 people on why water is attracting the next generation of high-profile entrepreneurs.

The panel will answer the question of how can microfinance, technology, and advocacy help avert more 'Day Zero' scenarios?

In the Brave Blue World documentary, Jaden Smith discusses why he launched 501cTHREE and JUST Water to spark change and provide a solution to a challenge closer to home in Flint, Michigan.

“The problem with this crisis is the water that is drinkable is going to start disappearing and the water that is not drinkable, is going to appear everywhere,” said Jaden Smith.

“We can make a difference, and there's a huge group of people out there that really cares. We're not big enough yet, but we will get there.”

The documentary is set to premiere in Los Angeles in mid-December 2019 before a series of global screenings throughout 2020.

Water.org co-founders Matt Damon and Gary White also discuss how the role of microfinance and advocacy have granted millions access to safe water globally.

Peter Gilmer, Chief Impact Officer of Web Summit, said: "We are honoured that Jaden Smith, Gary White and Paul O’Callaghan have chosen Web Summit as a platform to draw attention to their water organisations and the Brave Blue World documentary.

“Web Summit's global audience of entrepreneurs and leaders presents us with an enormous opportunity to provide trusted guidance, inspiration and thought leadership in order to help us stand together in trying to solve the world’s biggest social, economic and environmental issues."

Paul O'Callaghan, the Executive Producer of Brave Blue World and Founding CEO of BlueTech Research, said: “Historically the stories of water innovators and innovations have never been told to a wide audience

“Brave Blue World is setting out to change this record and show that through technological innovation and entrepreneurship, there’s hope.”
